They can be used for traditional heavy lay down of colour sharpened for more detailed drawing. The 4mm core is smudgable and blendable with finger or paper stump. . - Charcoal particles are mixed with the finest clays and encased in wood to produce a rich, smoothly textured pencil
- Use Charcoal Pencils on top of other colours to add darker tones for shadows
- Use a Derwent Blender, a paper stump, or a finger to blend and create different effects of light and shadow

- Small amounts of pigment are mixed with charcoal and clay to produce charcoal with just a hint of colour

- Naturally watersoluble to create washes and other effects
- Darker tones can be added using the point of the pencil
- Use a fine eraser or putty eraser to lift highlights

Lightfastness is based on the Blue Wool scale, where 8 is the highest rating. Here denoted by the value in brackets ie (BW6).
Values of BW6 and above are considered to be lightfast.
